Software Engineer
We are looking for a freelance Software Engineer to assist us in building exceptional web applications and tools.
Join us to transform ideas into high-quality products! This challenging and rewarding task will see you working with a vibrant team that shares attention to detail, focuses on quality, and seeks continuous improvement.
Who you are
- You are a passionate Software Engineer with a strong interest in AI, responsible for developing web applications using technologies such as TypeScript, React.js, Node.js, Python, and Generative AI tooling. Your primary focus is building great software; your AI knowledge is a key differentiator that sets you apart.
- You have solid experience working on one or more projects in the AI field, with a good understanding of large language models, LLM tooling, and evaluation techniques. Experience with different model providers, techniques such as RAG and fine-tuning are a plus.
- You are proactive and autonomous, with the seniority to own and drive small-scale projects end-to-end — from scoping to delivery — with minimal supervision. You are comfortable making decisions independently, moving fast, and adapting when things change. You thrive in a startup-like environment where ownership and initiative matter as much as technical skills.
- You are comfortable engaging with clients and prospects — you understand their business needs, translate them into concrete product requirements, and can hold a meaningful conversation about software architecture and AI-related topics: explaining concepts clearly, discussing possibilities and limitations, and turning technical topics into actionable outcomes.
- You are great at working together with a team of designers, software engineers, and project managers to challenge and comprehend product needs from a business perspective.
- You are a fan of good UX, whether it’s for your client’s products or for tools used by your colleagues. You always aim for perfection and find the right balance between design and implementation.
- You are keen to design secure systems as it is a deliberate and integral part of the entire software design and development process.
- You are curious and have a lot of interests and experiences you enjoy sharing with your co-workers.
- You speak Italian fluently and English proficiently.

People ask us this a lot
And we love giving straight answers.
What is it like to work at Buildo?
We like to share moments of our life at Buildo on our Instagram profile.
You can learn more about our activities inside and outside the office, the people who work here and their points of view on the company, the technology, and our work.
I can't find an open role that's right for me. What should I do?
Don't worry! If you think Buildo might need you, go ahead and submit a spontaneous application. Please specify in the notes the value you could bring to Buildo and the role you envision for yourself.
Do you have full-remote positions?
Not exactly. Being together has always been part of Buildo's DNA. However, we have a hybrid remote work policy that considers our team's and the company's needs.
Employees are required to be physically present only on specific occasions, such as project days (one day a week dedicated to the main project the person is working on), Buildo days (one day a month), and on-site weeks (two weeks a year).
Additionally, we have introduced Remote Months, which allow our employees to work remotely for two months a year. This gives our team members the chance to spend time with their families or work from other locations across the globe.
Do you provide body rental service to your clients?
We do not provide body rental services to our clients. Building a high-performing development team is crucial for creating successful software products.
To achieve this, we take numerous steps to nurture a team that can realize your vision, from recruiting the right talent to cultivating a positive team culture. Therefore, we prefer establishing impactful, long-term partnerships through project-based collaborations rather than providing body rental services.
Is it necessary to know Italian to work at Buildo?
Speaking Italian is necessary if you are considering a position at Buildo, as it is the primary language used within the company, even though we use English extensively with our international clients. Knowledge of Italian is optional only for collaboration roles.
Regardless of your language skills, we will do everything possible to make you feel welcome and part of the team! We highly value and embrace diverse cultures and perspectives.
